Organic and fair trade chocolate, made in Québec

Do you eat chocolate every day? Each week? Do you save it only for special occasions? I've confessed before on the blog that I have quite a sweet tooth, so I pretty much have to keep chocolate in the pantry at all time: snack before the gym, quick dessert after dinner, or really whenever I have a craving.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved milk chocolate and white chocolate the most. Since I learned about the health benefits of dark chocolate, I’ve started eating it as well, and so I'm thrilled to be welcoming this new partner...

Theobroma

Starting this week, your sweet cravings will be satisfied by Theobroma chocolates.

I spoke with Jean-René, Vice President and co-Founder of Chocolates Vigneault, the company behind the Theobroma Chocolat™ collection. You've probably seen these chocolates before, especially if you shop in health food stores. They're long and thin (Jean-René calls them "magic wands") and the brown and green packaging is a tip of the hat to their natural ingredients.

Scratch your own itch
Josée and Jean-René, a couple who both loved chocolate, were looking for chocolates made locally from organic and fair trade cocoa. When they had trouble finding what they wanted, they went ahead and started making chocolates themselves.

In 2007, they opened a small Quebec factory, which produced its first batch of chocolates in January 2008. Six years later, Josée and Jean-René now have a team of about 20, all of whom Jean-René considers modern artisans: mixing old school and new school techniques, making chocolates with passion and pleasure, and creating excellent sweets that are respectful of human health and the environment. That's the vision for Theobroma, and it pervades all parts of their business.

When pleasure and sustainability go hand in hand
The creators of the Theobroma chocolate collections operate a fully organic processing plant and mix the ingredients themselves. The real organic fruits that are added to the chocolate are minimally processed so that you enjoy the actual taste of the fruit (no more, no less) as the square of chocolate melts in your mouth. It’s normal if you’re salivating.

The result is a dark, organic, fair trade, dairy free, peanut free chocolate, so tasty and crunchy that you won’t realize you’ve just eaten the whole thing.

And guess what? Next week you can add a complimentary dark chocolate bar with raspberry pieces to your basket to try it out yourself!

My personal favorite: Banana (apparently it's the usually kids' favorite, but oh well). What's yours?

Happy tasting!
