Description
At Lufa Farms, we’re on a mission to create a better food system by growing food where people live and growing it responsibly. This led us to build the world’s first commercial rooftop greenhouse in 2011 and the world’s largest less than a decade later. To support our six high-tech urban farms in Montreal, Quebec ranging in production from greens to vining crops, we’re looking for a Head Grower to oversee all cultivation activities and work with our operations team to achieve the maximum potential production and efficiency.
The Head Grower is responsible for managing all cultivation activities at our six sites (total of ~5 hectares of polyculture production, with each site dedicated to a certain crop and cultivation system) and establishing robust processes for the following, with the support of technical advisors and the greenhouse operations team: climate, irrigation, and nutrient management; biological pest control; crop planning and crop work strategies; yield and quality; training and development of the team; research and development.
Our ideal candidate is motivated to help change the way cities eat one rooftop greenhouse at a time and is incredibly organized, caring, and hardworking. They apply first principles thinking and data-driven decision-making to everything they do, seek operational excellence and continuous improvement, and can effectively collaborate with various teams. We’re looking for candidates with significant commercial greenhouse production experience and a horticulture, engineering, or other relevant scientific background.
Responsibilities
Oversee plant science and cultivation strategies at all production facilities on a continuous basis, with the support of the operations team;
Establish rigorous practices and procedures to ensure efficient and optimized production;
Optimize production at all greenhouses;
Develop and report on KPIs for the department (yield, quality, waste, costs, productivity);
Train operations and other support team on important cultivation knowledge to best manage all sites;
Maintain a strong culture of inclusion and respect while ensuring operational excellence.
Requirements
At least five years of experience in commercial greenhouse cultivation;
Highly independent with an ownership mentality;
Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working with various teams and departments;
Committed to commuting to all sites throughout the greater Montreal area;
Comfortable using Google Suite or other comparable software applications.
Assets
Seeks out continuous learning and stays informed on the latest technological and scientific developments in relevant industries;
Management and leadership skills and experience;
Fluent in additional languages (French, Spanish, other);
Ready, willing, and able to relocate to Montreal, Quebec for an incredible challenge and opportunity.
Schedule
Full-time position of 40-45 hours per week with time outside regular hours or on weekends expected.

Competitive salary determined in part on the experience and knowledge of the candidate;
