Organic Apple and Maple Syrup Crumble
Have you ever baked an apple crisp with maple syrup? As the days get shorter and colder, this is a guaranteed source of comfort. And if you follow the recipe below, you can do it almost entirely with organic and local ingredients from the Marketplace!
Apple filling
- 5 to 7 organic apples, peeled and cut (McIntosh & Cortland are on promo on the Marketplace!)
- Juice of half a lemon
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil (optional)
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- ½ cup organic maple syrup
Crunchy oatmeal crumble
- 1 ½ cup Organic Oatmeal Delight from Agri-Choux (also on promo for the occasion!)
- ½ cup organic wheat flour Agri-Choux ($2 for the bag on the Marketplace)
- 2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- A few drops of water
Instructions
- Preheat oven at 375° and place rack in the middle
- Melt the butter in a saucepan
- Add the apples and all the filling ingredients
- Cook over medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes or until your kitchen smells like happiness.
- Meanwhile, combine oats, flour, butter and a few drops of water to mix well (water helps by creating small clumps)
- Place filling in the bottom of a dish and cover with the oat mixture. Add a little cinnamon on top and a drizzle (or more) of maple syrup
- Bake 25 minutes or until the top becomes golden
- Serve with a scoop of Coaticook vanilla ice cream
