Introducing our new registered Charity: The Lufa Farms Foundation

Launching the Lufa Farms Foundation.

Two years after creating our Direct Giving Program, we’re proud to announce the launch of the Lufa Farms Foundation. This vital step toward improving access to fresh food for Quebec families in need is accompanied by a new long-term partnership with the Lucie and André Chagnon Foundation through their mission-oriented investment of $7 million made in the form of a loan. This shift will provide even wider access to fresh, local, responsible weekly food baskets for those who need it most, while solidifying our goal to efficiently fight food insecurity in Quebec.

So…what does this mean?

Now that we’re a registered charity, we can leap forward with our mission to make fresh food more accessible to our community and beyond. Not only have we been approved by the CRA, creating even more transparency, accountability, and longevity for the Direct Giving Program, we can now issue tax receipts for contributions of $20+.

The Lufa Farms Foundation is recognized for being completely independent with a dedicated governing body, that’ll allow us to build an even stronger program with the sole focus of supporting as many families in vulnerable situations as possible. All donations will still go directly to the participants, with no deductions from overhead or administrative fees: every dollar contributed is converted to a dollar for our families to spend on the Marketplace.

Doubling the number of families in 2023.

On January 1st, 2023, thanks to the incredible generosity Lufavores, we raised a record of nearly $360,000 from annual Giveback credits alone (close to $60 000 more than the previous year). With these contributions and the support of our new partner, we’ll be able to double (!) our participants and grow our program in the year to come.

The investment made by the Chagnon Foundation will contribute to the continuation of The Direct Giving Program.

This new partnership with the Lufa Farms Foundation and the Lucie and André Chagnon Foundation allows us to build a whole new form of effective, direct, and transparent philanthropy in order to improve food security in Quebec.

Our next step is to find new partners to help us support more people in need and we’re looking for new non-profits whose mission to fight against food insecurity aligns with ours. We’re acutely aware of the work that still needs to be done and we’re proud of how far we’ve come with this program. Thankfully, we can rely on the help of our loyal non-profit partners, the Chagnon Fondation, and now our very own Lufa Farms Foundation for resources to help us grow exponentially.
