UX/UI (part-time)

This position will involve the visual design and the ongoing upkeep of all Lufa Farms' software and applications. We are looking for someone with a strong background in user experience (UX) design and/or user interface who is able to enhance our applications and services. We are looking for someone to:

  • Create the most optimal user interface to facilitate its adoption by users
  • Design mockups to demonstrate usability to stakeholders prior to implementation
  • Prepare all visuals for development team to facilitate implementation
  • Contribute to the visual identity of Lufa Farms
  • Keep an up-to-date Lufa Farms’ style guide

Web Developer 

Lufa Farms is looking to grow its Software Development department. The Web Developer will be responsible for the development of applications to support our daily operations and our online sales platform. We are looking for someone to:

  • Design, estimate, and code new features
  • Architect new applications, and expand existing ones
  • Investigate and fix production issues
  • Define, document, and enforce regulations, procedures and formal instructions
  • Ensure all code that goes to production is of top quality

HR Assistant

The Assistant to HR is responsible for maintaining filing systems, updating job postings, verifying documentation prior to payroll processing and ensuring that employee files are kept up to date. The assistant will also help with screening resumes and preparing offer letters, contracts, and other documentation related to onboarding of new employees. This is a junior role.

Greenhouse Aid (Laval)

As Greenhouse Aid you are responsible for the well-being of the plants as well as the general appearance of the greenhouse. In this position you will report to the Greenhouse Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Crop work (such as clipping, twining, deleafing, fruit pruning) and other crop/greenhouse related tasks (such as installation of sticky traps)
  • Keeping the tools you use in good condition
  • Keeping the greenhouse clean and organized
  • Part of weekend checklist rotation
  • Carry out all activities as scheduled and/or requested by Greenhouse Supervisor

In addition, you will also take on a few general greenhouse tasks. One of the great benefits of this role is the ability to be constantly moving, your Fitbit will love it!

  • Knows the difference between a tomato and a cucumber and between a ripe tomato and a non-ripe tomato.

Warehouse Manager 

The Warehouse Manager will be responsible for the Lufa Farms warehouse and distribution center. This role will involve building processes and procedures to achieve operational improvements related to reception, inventory, warehousing, portioning, cleaning and pick and pack operations by initiating, coordinating and coaching the team throughout the process. The manager will be in charge of maintaining the condition of the warehouse, planning and implementing new layouts as required and ensuring all equipment is maintained and working properly ensure timely dispatch of the orders. The manager will also be responsible for integrating the use of automated and computerized systems into the current process and will need a deep understanding of how theses systems function.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in warehouse management or supervision
  • Technically driven- someone that has attended a Promat conference and has a software background
  • Ability to analyze data and predict future needs- someone that dreams of puts per hour
  • Awareness of the latest trends in warehouse and distribution setup including emerging automation technologies and how they function
  • Experience in developing standards, operating procedures and the execution thereof to ensure productivity targets are achieved
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements and experience ensuring standards are met

Greenhouse Maintenance Technician 

The Greenhouse Maintenance Technician conducts the maintenance operations of our three rooftop greenhouses. It is a hands-on role that requires technical and applied knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems (with a focus on irrigation systems). The ideal candidate is someone who can not only conduct our scheduled maintenance tasks, but who can also identify and address mechanical failures of production equipment, structural/building deficiencies, and maintenance gaps. 

Requirements:

  • Prior experience as a mechanic maintaining and repairing equipment/facilities
  • Must have experience and be able to perform PVC and plumbing repairs, basic electrical repairs, carpentry, and painting
  • Experience with material handling and construction, advanced knowledge of power tools, operating various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments
  • Must be available outside normal business hours during emergency calls, and be reachable 24/7
  • Adjusts to changing conditions and willing to work off-shift, holidays, and weekends as needed
  • Ability to perform under minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment in problem resolution
  • Must have a driver’s license and a vehicle to travel between sites and pick up materials

Warehouse Team Employee 

This general position at Lufa Farms requires a candidate who is effective at three key roles at our warehouse: picking, packing and portioning. Different roles may vary according to the specific needs of our Montreal distribution center. 

Requirements:

  • Ability to work quickly and precisely without making errors in a constantly changing environment under pressure
  • Ability to work both independently and in teams
  • Actively concerned and aware about both quality of work and of the products being handled
  • Ability to lift and handle heavy objects (+/- 20 lbs) and put them in inventory, sometimes on high shelves (6’ to 8’) using a ladder or stepladder if necessary
  • Ability to respect deadlines

Director of Purchasing 

This role requires someone who is adept at managing a team, strategic negotiations, and managing relationships with existing suppliers. Additionally, the Director of Purchasing will be responsible for the complete vision of the Lufa Farms online marketplace which involves creating and executing a full merchandizing plan based on data, trends and anticipated needs of our Lufavores. This role will be evaluated on Key Performance Indicators - notably availability, margins and average order value. Collaboration with the marketing department, accounting department, distribution department, and with the IT department to improve supply chain tools and operations will also be expected.

Requirements:

  • Good negotiation skills and confident in business relationship development
  • Experience forecasting, purchasing, and managing supplier relationships
  • 5 years experience in a purchasing management or direction role, prederably in the food industry
  • Familiar with retail pricing and specials in the retail food industry
  • Strong day to day team management capabilities and experience and ability to build and performance manage a multi-disciplinary team

The purchaser is responsible for managing all aspects inherent to our relations with suppliers, including:

  • Following up on supplier performance and managing all communications with our suppliers including pricing negotiations, quantities required, promotional calendars, new product arrivals and logistics
  • Participating in transition meetings with new suppliers
  • Merchandising responsibilities including evaluating new suppliers and products as well as ingredients, origins and ensuring the alignment with the Lufa Farms mission. Negotiating prices, and ensuring a smooth onboarding experience

Plant Science Manager 

The Plant Science Manager oversees the team responsible for the planting, cultivation and harvesting decisions of all produce grown at all three Lufa Farms sites (Ahuntsic, Laval, Anjou). The Plant Science Manager will tour the greenhouses with the Plant Science team to check the health of the plants and keep records of the day-to-day operations. 

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the growers of all three greenhouses (Ahuntsic, Laval, and Anjou).
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of crop plans.
  • Responsible for production and harvesting forecasting.
  • Inspecting greenhouses for plant damage, disease, and pests.
  • Submitting water samples to the laboratory, interpreting test results, and adjusting solutions accordingly.
  • Reporting and requesting work orders for all maintenance issues related to the greenhouses, be it structural, equipment, heating, and/or irrigation related.
  • Communicate and coordinate with external suppliers, Greenhouse Operations Manager, and consultants when required.

Requirements: 

  • Strong management, delegation, planning and leadership skills.
  • Science background in chemistry, biochemistry or equivalent.
  • Analytical, data driven and demonstrates good attention to details.
  • Must be a motivated self-starter and able to direct the work force throughout the growing process, from planting through to harvest.
  • 2 years of work experience managing a team.
  • Quick learner.
  • Valid driver's license in order to conduct regular visits to each greenhouse.

Marketing Manager 

The Marketing Manager manages the marketing team, ensures growth targets are attained and coordinates the creation of quality content. To succeed you need to be great manager that both upholds a metrics & experimentation driven growth process and possesses a critical creative eye. 

Responsibilities:

  • Direct the training, performance evaluations, and overseeing of the daily activities of the Marketing Team (Sales Coordinator, Content Coordinator, and Communications Coordinator). 
  • Document, update and uphold all marketing processes to ensure repeatability, scalability and profitability. 
  • Meet sales objectives by forecasting our growth plan and supporting the Sales Coordinator’s activities and campaigns.
  • Coordinate, vet and provide detailed feedback to ensure the timely delivery of quality content that is consistent in style and voice.
  • Craft a content calendar that supports our overarching narrative and content strategy for our social media posts, email communications, and ads. 
  • Handle inbound PR requests and develop relationships with media outlets for possible outbound PR campaigns.
  • Coordinate the creation and quality of website content (blogs, recipes, product descriptions and supplier descriptions) with outside contractors.
  • Engage with local communities through community visits and the creation of a community program.

Requirements:

  • Great communication skills and a knack for presenting results to groups in a clear, digestible manner.
  • Attention to detail, especially when it comes to design and copywriting. This is incredibly important to us.

Greenhouse Supervisor

The Greenhouse Supervisor is responsible for the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of the greenhouse. The Supervisor schedules and monitors all greenhouse activities and staff routines, plans for events and schedules maintenance/repairs. The Supervisor also participates in the hiring and evaluation of greenhouse staff. While greenhouse experience is an asset, we are primarily looking for someone with excellent team management experience.  

Requirements: 

  • At least 2 years’ experience managing a team
  • Comfortable with long periods of physical activity (8+ hours) in humid environment
  • Capable walking, bending, lifting for extended periods
  • Organized
  • Own vehicle or driver’s license
