A sea of green cities, one rooftop at a time.
Built in 2011, our Ahuntsic greenhouse is the world’s first commercial rooftop greenhouse with 32,000-square-foot of growing space.
From the very beginning, we’ve followed our five tenets of responsible agriculture. From repurposing existing spaces, to recirculating water, saving energy, controlling pests biologically, and reducing waste, these five principles guide our every decision - making sure we always stay true to our mission, vision, and values.
In 2013, we built our Laval greenhouse in partnership with a real estate developer to make their new industrial building greener.
First up, repurposing existing spaces. It’s no secret that while the population is rapidly increasing, farmland is quickly disappearing. By converting unused rooftops into agricultural spaces, we’re able to feed people where they live while making urban development more sustainable and (literally) greener.
Built in 2017, in the heart of Anjou’s industrial neighbourhood, our third greenhouse brings a sea of greens to the landscape.
Rooftop greenhouses provide year-round access to fresh, local, responsible food. Finding a rooftop of the right size that can support the weight of a greenhouse, not to mention convincing the owners to let us build on it, hasn’t always been an easy feat. From the world’s first commercial rooftop greenhouse to the world’s largest, we carry over our learnings from the previous ones by simplifying, improving, and becoming more efficient along the way.
At 163,800 square feet, our Ville Saint-Laurent greenhouse, built on an abandoned building, is our most ambitious project. It’s also the world’s largest rooftop greenhouse.
Our vision is cities filled with rooftop farms. Our team is always and forever innovating, whether it’s looking for new opportunities to add a greenhouse on an existing industrial building or working in partnership with new developments to make their spaces more sustainable. No matter where or how we build, we believe that filling urban spaces with rooftop farms is an essential part of furthering our mission to create a better food system.
