The dream continues... a second rooftop farm

(Drumroll)…

Voilà!

You might have seen it on our Facebook already, but we are so proud to introduce you to our new rooftop greenhouse, located in Laval just west of Boulevard Curé-Labelle near the 440.

This is our second (and the world's largest) commercial rooftop greenhouse. Construction is nearly finalized and the plants will be arriving in just two weeks. We are so incredibly excited about our first expansion!

This greenhouse is 43,000 square feet (about 1.5x the size of our first site) and it’s even more energy-efficient (see why below).

When will it be in production?
This fall (first tomatoes should be ready towards the end of September).

What will we grow there?
Over 20 varieties of amazing tomatoes, including many specialty and heirloom varieties, and three different eggplant varieties. Our cucumbers, peppers, and greens will be staying on at our Ahuntsic greenhouse.

What’s special about this greenhouse?
It’s a building-integrated rooftop site (the building was planned to have us on top!), and it’s a Kubo Ultra Clima greenhouse, meaning...

  • Top notch technologies for the most sustainable greenhouse construction
  • Lower energy consumption
  • Better climate management
  • Better pest management (we'll be better able to keep bugs out!)
  • Equipped for recirculation, rainwater capture, and condensation capture

Want to know even more about our second greenhouse?
Nerd out and learn more about Kubo's Ultra Clima, and eagerly await the first heirloom varieties on our Marketplace.

Enjoy your weekly basket of local treasures and have a good weekend!
