Over 65 years of responsible chicken raising at Ferme des Voltigeurs.

When it comes to the poultry industry, discussions around animal welfare and transparency can often ruffle feathers. That’s why finding a partner that prioritizes quality and care makes all the difference. For over 65 years, Ferme des Voltigeurs has been doing just that. Run by siblings Dominique, Bernard, and Georges Junior Martel, this family farm has grown from a small roadside stand in Drummondville into a trusted name for local, fresh, responsibly raised and organic chicken. Watch the video to see what the Martel family has to say about introducing organic poultry to their lineup, and scroll down to get a closer look.

Ferme des Volitugeurs took flight in 1958 with Denise Turcotte’s small roadside farm stand. What started with a mix of field veggies and chickens from local farmers really soared when Denise partnered with her husband Georges Martel. To gain full control over the quality of their offerings, the duo built their own chicken coop, abattoir, and commercial kitchen, laying the groundwork for what would officially become Ferme des Voltigeurs. They also built a mill to provide their chicks with a plant-based diet free of animal by-products, blending vitamins, minerals, and grains.

The welfare of their chickens is always top of mind. Over the years, they’ve grown to a full-scale operation serving retailers across Quebec, all while staying true to their roots. In 2008, Ferme des Voltigeurs introduced an organic lineup to meet the growing demand for responsibly raised poultry. Their organic chicks roam freely outdoors, enjoying access to perches where they can stretch their wings during warmer months - certified organic or not, every chicken is treated with care at the farm.

The Voltigeurs team is woven into the Drummondville community. Like mother, like daughter, Nathalie Martel keeps the family tradition alive, running a stand at the local farmers market where she chats with customers and local vendors about her passion for fresh, local food. Alongside the market stand, Ferme des Voltigeurs also operates three nearby stores, serving up fresh chicken cuts and ready-made meals to local regulars.

From wings to drumsticks, breasts, thighs, legs, or whole, they prepare all types of fresh cuts. Check out their lineup on the Marketplace!
