At Bio-Saveur, a simpler crop plan means better harvests.

For the past decade, Karl Gagnon from Bio-Saveur has been growing anything and everything we ask at his organic farms in Laval and Mascouche. But it’s not always a walk in the park - there’ve been years when his 45 acres boasted way more than his team could manage (aka over 20 different varieties of fruits and veg in a single season) with crops that weren’t always super successful: artichokes were too tricky, cucamelon wasn’t a hit, and his celery was more leaves than stalks.

This season, Karl is planting a more tailored selection of fruits and veg that he knows we love, spreading them out over the summer to keep things flowing in fresh - giving him and his soil much-needed balance and a better chance at success. Spring veggies kick off the season. Karl’s early sprouts lead the charge, with young garlic and his very first asparagus harvest starting in May.

Garlic and strawberries are ready for picking. Time to dig in, Karl’s field berries bring the first sweet taste of summer, while his garlic packs a punch. Spotted in the fields working away (whenever she pleases) is Karl's mother, looking to enjoy some fresh air, juicy strawberries, and time with her son.

As July rolls in, so does more variety. Get ready for full-sized onions, Italian tomatoes, garlic, shallots, and Karl’s favourite - ground cherries! When fall arrives, expect his fields to be brimming with sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and tons of squash.
