Join us in funding fresh food for families through the Direct Giving Program.
Last month, Food Banks of Quebec released its annual hunger report, painting an alarming picture of the situation in the country. In March 2024 alone, food banks saw over two million visitors across Canada, with nearly 30% reporting they couldn’t meet demand and over half needing to ration food just to get by. For families on tight budgets or newcomers adjusting to life in Canada, the rising costs of food makes even basic groceries feel out of reach. That’s where our Direct Giving Program steps in. By providing weekly baskets of fresh, local, responsible food, we’re giving families and individuals more control over what goes on their table, while also lightening the load on Montreal’s food banks.
We launched our Direct Giving Program in 2020 to help those in our community experiencing food insecurity. Through donations from our Lufavores and local partnerships with non-profits, we’re able to offer $30 per family members and individuals to spend on the Marketplace every week, plus 25% off fruits and vegetables to increase access to fresh produce.
Thanks to the generosity of our Lufavores, we’ve been able to support over 400 families this year, but we need more help to keep feeding as many families as possible in 2025 - the more funds we raise, the more people we’ll be able to reach. With your continued support, we can keep delivering fresh food and peace of mind to those who need it most.
Our team recently paid a visit to Native Montreal. From left to right: Emily, our communications and program coordinator, Bianca, program beneficiary, Emily, Native Montreal’s wellness navigator, Callie, our public relations coordinator, and Charlotte, one of our copywriters.
Small contributions can have a big impact on your local community.
From food banks, shelters, and family centres, we partner with organizations working tirelessly within their community to help those in need. Whether they support single parents balancing work and school, newcomers adjusting to life in Montreal, or folks going through a rough patch, we rely on these local charities to help us pick those who would benefit most from the Direct Giving Program.
Among them is Native Montreal, a centre dedicated to supporting the well-being of families, individuals, and the Indigenous communities of Montreal. We recently had the pleasure of meeting their wellness navigator Emily, whose role is all about easing the burdens the centre’s visitors face, guiding them as they work toward their wellness goals. With food insecurity being a recurring challenge, connecting participants with our program helps lighten the mental load of feeding their families, freeing up energy to focus on regaining stability. Bianca, a single mother from the Algonquin community of Lac-Simon (Simosagigan) in Abitibi, is one of those who had the opportunity to benefit from the generosity of Lufavores, bringing fresh produce home weekly. Reflecting on this support, Bianca shared that it provided not only nutritional choices for her family but also a renewed sense of control over their lives.

Donate today to directly support those in your community combating food insecurity.
With no administrative costs, every penny you give to the Direct Giving Program turns into weekly credits added directly to our members’ accounts. For those facing food insecurity, the chance to choose the food they want catered to their dietary needs is a rare opportunity. Thanks to Lufavores, we’re providing fresh and accessible options, leaving members with one less thing to worry about. As we plan for next year, all it takes is for everyone to give what they can, if they can, to keep as many participants benefiting from customizable baskets.
Consider supporting your community by contributing your annual Giveback to the program, adding a weekly donation to your orders, or making a one-time donation today through your account settings. (Psst! Donations over $20 qualify for tax receipts.)
