Rethinking space with our fifth rooftop greenhouse.
We’ve just launched our fifth rooftop greenhouse - our most technologically advanced to date. With every new urban farm, we strive to produce more vegetables with less energy. Our latest addition to the roster located in Marché Central continues to reflect our commitment to Quebec’s sustainable food autonomy by promising higher productivity while minimizing energy consumption.

After four years of planning and building, our new rooftop is officially in bloom. When we learned about the plans for a sustainable expansion of the Marché Central complex in 2020, we took this as an opportunity to incorporate a greenhouse into a commercial building for the first time. Partnering with QuadReal Property Group, and taking advantage of 127,000 square feet of their new Walmart and Decathlon rooftop, we’re able to show that responsible ag can be integrated into any type of urban development.

Producing more vegetables with fewer resources through state-of-the-art tech. Our newest greenhouse uses an Ultra-Clima concept, an automated climate management system that optimizes temperature and humidity. The site also has double-wall insulated glass to prevent heat loss and a diffused glass roof to spread sunlight evenly. We’ve also installed two sets of blackout curtains and high-intensity LED lights - allowing for constant plant growth throughout the year, even during the shortest and gloomiest days.

Seedlings have been planted and harvest is underway! In just three weeks, our team has already started harvesting the first Lebanese cucumbers, with English cukes and peppers following closely behind. Though it may not be our largest greenhouse, with our new tech, we anticipate increasing vegetable yields by up to 40% compared to our other rooftops - helping reduce prices down the line.
Beyond a rooftop farm, this new greenhouse shows that urban farming can be done at a lower cost, with fewer resources, and can be replicated anywhere…as long as there’s a roof. Thank you to everyone involved for your continued support and commitment. Together, we’re cultivating more than just crops - we’re moving toward a more sustainable future for all.
