Why 2013 was amazing

Celebrating a growing community

Oof. We delivered tens of thousands of baskets this year. When the first Lufa Farms baskets were delivered in the spring of 2011, only a few hundred subscribers received our vegetables. By early 2013, we had close to 1500 weekly deliveries. Since then, we have gathered a community of close to 3000 Lufavores.

Thank you for being part of this local food adventure.

Thank you to our partners: farmers, bakers, and food lovers who share our passion for quality, real freshness, and sustainability. Your stories inspire us.

Making rooftop farming a viable option

2013 was a major year for us because we built the world’s largest commercial rooftop farm. We took all that we had learned in the previous two years and worked with our exceptional partners to build this high-tech farm, which now produces more tomatoes and eggplants than we could have dreamt of.

Using biocontrols (insects) instead of synthetic pesticides, our greenhouse team is at the forefront of ecological greenhouse farming.

Offering subscribers more flexibility, variety, and customization

In the spring of 2013, after months (and long nights!) of hard work, we launched our online Marketplace and the customizable basket. Hoorah! Subscribers can now select the vegetables and products of their choice and add as many local treasures as they want.

As many of you know, the fun part starts when you receive an email to let you know it’s time to log in to the Marketplace. You have up until midnight the day before your delivery to change the content of your order.

We're continuing to work on improving the Marketplace based on your comments and feedback. We recently added a category with essential pantry goodies like rice, quinoa, couscous, and sunflower seeds. More to come in 2014...

What to look for in 2014?

2014 will be an exciting year for Montreal locavores. We'll continue to work hard to improve your experience as a Lufavore. We’ll bring you more products and make sure that you have a pick-up point near you. We’ll bring you more tips and ideas to cook your products and continue harvesting your vegetables the morning of their delivery. We’ll keep looking for the most amazing treasures and will continue opening our doors during seasonal open-house weekends.

Plus, expect a new basket container, one designed to last years and to carry safely refrigerated products such as eggs and cheese.

From the whole Lufa Farms team, we want to thank you for helping change the way urban consumers eat and for supporting those that grow locally. 2013 was great, and 2014 will be even better. Happy new year!
