Description
At Lufa Farms, we’re on a mission to create a better food system and a huge part of this is achieved by growing food where people live, and growing it responsibly. This led us to build the world’s first commercial rooftop greenhouse in 2011, followed by the world’s largest less than a decade later. With six urban farms (and counting!), we’re looking for a Building Engineer or an experienced Building Systems Technician to handle the maintenance, repair, and optimization of building infrastructures to ensure their proper functioning, safety, and durability.
Responsibilities
1. Preventive maintenance:
Develop and implement a preventive maintenance plan for the various building systems (electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC - heating, ventilation, air conditioning);
Inspect equipment and installations to identify any signs of deterioration or malfunction.
2. Repair and troubleshooting:
Respond in case of system failure or breakdown;
Diagnose the causes of technical issues and perform necessary repairs or coordinate repairs with external service providers.
3. Technical systems management:
Oversee the proper functioning of fire safety systems, elevators, heating, air conditioning, and other complex systems;
Program and adjust automated systems to optimize the building’s energy performance.
4. Renovation and infrastructure optimization:
Recommend and implement improvements to reduce energy costs and enhance equipment efficiency (insulation, lighting, etc.);
Plan and supervise renovation or modernization projects for the infrastructure.
5. Compliance with standards and safety:
Ensure that building facilities comply with current safety, environmental, and health regulations;
Organize regular inspections to ensure systems meet local safety codes and building standards.
6. Team and contractor management:
Supervise and coordinate the work of subcontractors specializing in repair or maintenance;
Manage contracts with service providers for the maintenance of certain systems or equipment.
7. Budget and resource management:
Plan and manage the budgets allocated for maintenance work, repairs, and equipment purchases.
Requirements
Degree in engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical) or specialized technical training in building management and maintenance;
Bilingual (French and English);
Practical experience in managing building technical systems;
Expertise in electricity, plumbing, HVAC, mechanics, and building system automation;
Good understanding of safety standards and building management regulations;
Ability to quickly identify the causes of system failures or inefficiencies;
Ability to plan and manage maintenance or renovation projects while respecting deadlines and budgets;
Ability to work as part of a team, supervise technical staff, and collaborate with subcontractors.
Assets
Specific certifications in facility management (e.g., HVAC, electricity, real estate project management).
Schedule
40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
