Why we’re sticking with our organic farmers.

We’re not changing our tune when it comes to sustainable ag. Our Marketplace will never be a place for conventional fruits and veg grown with synthetic pesticides - we’re staying true to good old fresh, local, and responsible farming. While we run our own rooftop greenhouses, we also partner with many dedicated organic farmers across Quebec who work tirelessly in their fields. Even with grocery prices climbing and produce dumping making things tricky, we’re all sticking to our guns.

For those who may not know, dumping is when a surplus of foreign produce is sold to grocery stores for practically nothing, making it next to impossible for our local growers to compete. Despite these challenges, we’re committed to bringing you the best responsibly grown fruits and veggies straight from our greenhouses and farmers’ fields, making sure to stay as affordable as possible while keeping things fair for everyone involved. Our partners need your support now more than ever - so if you can, keep it up!

See what Julie and Sébastien from Jardins d’Ambroise have to say on the subject and scroll through to get a deeper understanding of their responsible efforts.

Jardins d’Ambroise has embraced organic practices from the get-go. Julie Boyer and Sébastien Rivest, both from farming families and with plenty of agricultural know-how, work hard to grow responsible fresh veg for Quebecers.

As small farmers, they face their fair share of ups and downs. Sudden changes in temperature, windstorms, and heavy rains that damage plants are all part of the job. But lately, inflation has been another rising battle. The increased cost of living and tighter budgets have changed how people shop - and sadly, organic food is often the first thing to be cut from the grocery list.

According to Julie and Sébastien, supporting local growers is a deliberate choice. Many of those who’ve embraced the impact of local, organic food haven’t changed their habits - sadly not everyone knows what’s going on behind the scenes. By choosing local whenever possible, we’re making a huge difference in these farmers’ lives.

The Jardins d’Ambroise team works hard to send us their fresh harvests four times a week. Right now, they’re harvesting garlic scapes, summer squash, and three varieties of zucchini (their specialty). But this is just the start - hold on to your forks because a boatload of watermelon, Brussels sprouts, garlic, leeks, shallots, squash, and much more bounty is on its way.
