Arhoma in HoMa

Know what makes a good sandwich? Um, the bread...warm Arhoma bread baked the same morning, made with organic flour and a touch of sea salt. This week, we’re giving you a proper introduction to your local bakers at Fabrique Arhoma.

Fabrique Arhoma.

In 2007, Ariane Beaumont and Jérôme Couture, passionate about baking, thought of changing up the game of classic pastry and bread recipes. After working at Première Moisson for a few years, the couple decided to open their own bakery.

Ariane lived in HoMa (Hochelaga-Maisonneuve) and found that her slowly but surely growing neighbourhood lacked artisanal bakeries. “I wanted a bakery that was more creative than classic, so we decided to experiment with classic recipes,” she said. This is how the concept of Boulangerie Arhoma was born - located in HoMa (hence the name ArHoMa).

After its launch, Boulangerie Arhoma quickly gained popularity. To Ariane’s and Jérôme’s pleasant surprise, their always fresh-baked bread also became super popular among local restaurants, specialty stores and other commercial clients. More demand needed a higher supply, so Ariane and Jérôme opened a second location in 2011, Fabrique Arhoma in Centre-Sud. Although much larger than Boulangerie Arhoma, Fabrique Arhoma never lost its artisanal ways. Built in a way that makes every customer feel like they’re in the middle of the baking process, Arhoma’s bakeries are really unique.

Fresh, local, sustainable.

Arhoma is committed to fresh, local, and sustainable. Their bread is baked with organic flour and sold in compostable signature paper bags designed with soy ink. Coffee is served with organic local milk in biodegradable cups, and everything you find on the counter is always super fresh, always local, and from a responsible source. In order to commit to freshness, baking at Arhoma starts around 8pm and goes all night long. Ariane and Jérôme even jokingly compare Arhoma to a baby that refuses to sleep nights. And they do take care of this baby a lot, making sure the breads are always fresh, the recipes are always unexpected and delicious. It’s this diehard commitment that led us to Ariane and Jérôme in the first place.

A bite is worth a thousand words.

When we found Arhoma, we couldn’t wait to share and added over 50 varieties to the Marketplace. You can get everything from a miche campagne to a pistachio & nutmeg baguette or an olive & émmental pain épi, along with croissants, muffins, and more. Now, for the holidays, we added some of their seasonal pies and tarts, like key lime pie, pear tart, and Mirabelle plum tart. Give some of them a try and spread the word about this great local bakery!
