Your basket’s journey from our distribution centre to your doorstep.

Your phone vibrates, letting you know your basket has arrived, so you open the front door, and sure enough - there it is. But have you ever wondered about the journey it took to get to your doorstep? And what goes on behind the scenes when our team members pack your orders? Keep scrolling to read more and watch the path your fresh, local, responsible products take to get to you.

Right after your Marketplace closes at midnight, we send your orders to our partners. We have around fifteen food makers who work diligently through the night to get your orders ready for the same day - delivering fresh products like bread, ready-made meals, and freshly cut meats before 6 am. Our reception team checks all these items before stocking our third-floor distribution centre’s shelves.

Not long after, our packing team members arrive and head straight to pick up their carts. Our smaller carts hold 12 baskets, while the larger ones (reserved for the experienced folks like Abhay pictured above) are designed to pack 16 baskets at a time. They also grab their tablets, which are loaded with all the instructions they need to assemble orders. Developed in-house, the software tells our team exactly what to pick and which basket to put it in.

Then, it's time to slip into their coats and make their way to the freezer. This frosty space houses over 400 frozen products ranging from wild blueberries to ramen noodles that end up in your cooler bag.

Two fridges come next on their route. This is where you’ll find the bulk of our products, from freshly picked veg to local cheese, responsible meat, and other sustainable finds.

Their cold journey comes to an end as they enter the room temp section, home to your pantry items. First closing the cooler bag to keep your refrigerated and frozen products cool, our team members then head down each aisle to pick all kinds of products - we’re talking organic olive oils, local spreads, all the baking essentials, and a ton more.

Once they’ve finished adding the items to all their baskets, they head to quality assurance. This is where we rearrange and double-check the baskets to make sure everything is packed well and accounted for. We do random checks routinely but always pay extra attention to new team members’ baskets to make sure they're on track to pack like a pro.

The baskets then make their way to our state-of-the-art, custom-built spiral conveyor belt. This contraption is four times faster than our previous one and brings the baskets down from the third floor straight to the delivery trucks and electric cars.

Finally, our incredible delivery driver partners pack the baskets into the trunk. And then they’re off in their fleet to your home or pick-up point…all in a day’s work.
