Grain to Plate.

Some time ago we told you a story of Marcus and Liz from Les Fermes Valens, a group of farms you get your meat products from. This week we’ll tell you about a special farm, that raises grain-fed chicken, Ferme La Rose Des Vents.

Located in the Laurentians, Ferme La Rose Des Vents is a family owned farm that has a long history of responsible farming starting from 1945, when Jean-Guy Lacelle’s grandfather, William, settled on the land. Since then the torch was passed on from father to son and today Jean-Guy, Diane Aubin and their sons and daughters manage the farm and raise grain-fed poultry.

“I feel privileged that we can work on this farm together. It’s amazing how each morning we greet each other with big kisses and warm hellos, although we’re always together!” says Diane.

Poultry at Ferme La Rose des Vents is raised indoors with lots of room to move and a comfy wood crumble bedding to sleep on. “We make all of our feed on-site from high-quality grains with no pesticides, fungicides or chemical fertilizers, all from Quebec farms” says Diane.

In 2006, Ferme La Rose Des Vents built a type C-1 butcher shop which made it possible to transform their products directly on the farm. “It’s a great way to meet new people and to get feedback about our products,” says Diane. “We also added products from local farmers that grow and produce on a small scale to our shop,” she continued.

In 2013 an abattoir was built on the farm. With this new addition, everything from raising poultry and making the feed to processing and packaging can be done directly on the farm. This makes Ferme La Rose Des Vents, one of the very few full cycle farms in Quebec.

In the region of the Laurentians, their chicken won blind taste tests on multiple occasions for its taste and texture. On the Marketplace, you’ll find a great variety of grain-fed frozen and fresh chicken products, such as whole chicken, chicken wings, 100% gluten free sausages, Quebec’s favourite tourtiere, ground chicken and more.
