Summer is here !

Hey all!

Greenhouse aide Johnny here, and I’m excited to tell you that Friday we had a little rooftop employee party to celebrate the summer solstice, so it is now OFFICIALLY SUMMER!

During the summer months, the greenhouse can get pretty toasty, hot and very humid, which can make it a challenge for the people sweatin’ and working away. The plants, however, love the warm weather! Some of the plants in our new cucumber crop that we planted just a few short weeks ago have already grown taller then me!

After spending hours in the heat pruning, twining, and tending to the cucumbers, it’s hard to not think of the many refreshing treats I can make with cucumbers when I get home from work... Be it making a cucumber gazpacho, a sliced cucumber on a sandwich with rye bread and cream cheese, or ever just cucumber water, cucumbers are delicious AND refreshing!

Cucumber water might sound weird, but my mom makes it all the time and it’s super awesome on a hot day, and takes hardly any effort... Here’s how to make it:

1. Wash, peel, slice cucumber into 1/4inch slices

2.Put in pitcher of fresh water

3.Refrigerate for an hour or so

See! Hardly any effort! I hope everyone is enjoying the heat. Put some sandals on and go to the park!
