The little secret of the Laurentians

We know how much you love those homemade ready meals, so this week we’ll tell you all about Boulangerie Le Caveau. Located in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, this second-generation family-owned business offers the best homemade pies, bread and meals to tourists and neighbours.

For the past 37 years, this place has been operated by the same family. Mathieu Lemarre bought Le Caveau from his father and since then the happy couple, Mathieu and Katerine Joly, Mathieu's family and friends, altogether forming a team of 20 people, have run it together.

Every morning Mathieu is the first one to come in for the morning shift, followed by Katerine. “In the morning Le Caveau is like a bee hive, we’re all baking our bread, cooking ready meals like ratatouille, lasagna or shepherd's pie and preparing the place for the day, like a big happy family of 20 friends,” Katerine smiles.

Le Caveau is a true jewel hidden in the region of Laurentians. The location of the bakery is somewhat remote and until last two years, Le Caveau had to close for winter. This situation has changed. The word about their delicious homemade pies got out and brought tourists visiting Mont-Tremblant and people working in the area.

Le Caveau is a lot like us. They carry seasonal fruit from local farmers and other artisanal and truly unique products. “Products we carry, you won't find in the grocery store, except for maybe some items here and there. We try to bring unique products so that anyone who walks in can find some of the most amazing artisanal and unique products,” Mathieu explains.

“It’s not big but its unique,” Katerine exclaimed, “When people see what it is today, they don’t know what it started with,” she said with pride. From a small ice cream booth, Le Caveau has evolved into a famous little spot in the Laurentides.

Mathieu and Katerine know most of their customers and when a new face appears, Katerine proudly shows them the book of history of Le Caveau filled with black and white old school pictures of Le Caveau’s evolution from that ice cream stand to what it is today. In the neighbourhood, it’s a celebrity, but for a little artisanal place like Le Caveau it’s hard to reach large cities like Montreal, although we’re only about an hour away.

When we found Le Caveau, we were certain we must bring those mouthwatering fresh goodies to Montreal! On the Marketplace, we have a great selection of fruit pies that contain no additives and their frozen ready meals like Paté Chinois. Browse away through this pure sweetness and deliciousness!
