The news comers : mini-turnips, spring radishes & wild sorrel

It's almost summer and we can feel it! We can see it in the threes and taste it with the weekly arrivals of seasonal produce. Already ... or rather, finally! It's exciting to discover newcomers, such as those available in next week's baskets, a sign that the season of abundance has started and we must enjoy it one vegetable at a time.

Next week, in your baskets, you'll find the following treasures from our local organic partners :

White mini turnips

Partner Farm : Les serres Lefort

They are softer than traditional turnips. Eat them raw (grated or sliced) in salads, grilled on the BBQ along with a dressing or fresh pesto.

Spring Radishes

Partner Farm : Le potager d'Émylou, Canton-de-Hatley

Wild Sorrel

Partner Farm : Ferme Jacques et Lucille Machabée, Saint-Chrysostome

If you haven't eaten sorrel yet, its taste will surprise you! The taste of sorrel's leaves are acidic, but oh so fresh and succulent, reminding us of lemon or green apple. Enjoy it like you would with spinach : try it raw at first, then baked, steamed or sautéed. Pascal, our buyer who works with our local partners farms and who is also of French origin suggests us his "classic" recipe : sautéed in butter with herbs and blended into a sauce to eat with salmon!

Pascal is the Lufa Farm's team member who buys from our local partner farms. His French origins makes me very knowledgeable of sorrel and he suggest  this "classic" recipe : cook some green onions in butter. Add a few leaves of wild sorrel (with a fresh herb if you want). Deglaze with white wine (optional). Add cream and leave it to reduce before blending it (if possible). Add salt and pepper and serve this creamy sauce on salmon or your favorite fish!
