Welcome to the sweet world of Sophie Sucrée

Milène Laoun is a cake designer and the owner of Sophie Sucrée, a coffee and pastry shop located in the Plateau at 167 Pine E. The café is named after Sophie, Milène's grandmother. I went to go visit Milène this past week, and as soon as I arrived Milène greeted me with a beautiful cup of hot chocolate prepared with coconut milk. Wow. It was comforting, succulent (I have to say I’m a fan of coconut) and a great alternative to my typical afternoon coffee.

Milène and her team are expert cake designers for weddings or other occasions, but they're also pros at vegan cuisine. My colleague Noah is himself a vegan, and he turned us on to the sweet world of Sophie Sucrée.

Gluten-free and vegan…and delicious

We usually overlook the amount of butter and cream that goes into baking. But at Sophie Sucrée, the pastries are all vegan—prepared without the use of animal products such as butter, cream, or eggs. The result is actually quite surprising: the pastries are rich, soft, tender, and as satisfying (if not more) than your standard dairy-laden fare.

Baked and delivered to you

Some things don't change. Milène and her team will bake your pastries the night before delivery, so they'll show up in your basket fresh and ready to be scarfed down. Have fun discovering the following products:

  • Almond cupcakes with chocolate icing (vegan and gluten-free)

  • Chocolate cupcakes with vanilla icing (vegan and gluten-free)

  • Pecan tartelettes (vegan and gluten-free)

  • Cinnamon & 5 spice brioche (vegan)

  • Double chocolate cookie (vegan and gluten-free)

Voilà! Bon appétit!
